Dia Dhaoibh agus fáilte ar ais chuig Rang Aideen agus Nadia,Happy New Year everyone. We wish you good health and happiness for2012. We have been very busy in our classroom since we last updatedyou! We completed our Composting experiment and found that applesdecompose much quicker than bananas. It was really exciting and alittle bit disgusting watching them decay! We put the compost juice toreally good use by spreading it on our wild garden patch. It hasdefinitely helped the plants to grow. Our indoor hyacinths in ourbottles are also thriving- they are nearly ready to flower. Thedaffodils that we placed in the glass bowl without soil are alsoshooting up. We look forward to having these lovely flowers in ourclassroom in the next few weeks. Keep an eye out in the garden for thedaffodils we planted around the school- they are ready to bloom verysoon! In Geography we learned all about Ireland- the counties and therivers. When we completed this we moved further afield and arecurrently learning all the countries in the EU- we might tackle thecapital cities next!Food chains was one of our topics in Science- we worked in groups tocreate food chains in different habitats like the woodland, jungle, garden and the deep ocean. We are also becoming expert Birdwatchers! We have studied lots of different birds-their colours, song andeveryday habits. We are patiently waiting for many of our birds toreturn from migration. We made Bird Feeders for our little friendsthat stay here all Winter long.We studied the life of Marco Polo- a famous Italian explorer andenjoyed reading about his travels. We hope to learn about Tom Creanthis month and his incredible adventures in the Antarctic. In PE we are doing Gymnastics. This has been really fun, workingtogether in groups creating balancing patterns as well as perfectingour forward rolls and other moves.Have a look at the photos below and you will see our Food Chains, ourbeautiful flowers that are nearly ready to bloom and our Gymnasticmoves.

Caitríona's Class

Happy New Year to all our families and friends, In Fourth Class we are happy to be back to school with our friends and we are working hard in all our subjects!
We have just finished enjoying our first week of the new yard activities and are looking forward to the next few weeks with exciting organised games and lovely new friendship benches!
Monday January 16th was Martin Luther King day. We read and wrote about him and all of the inspiring things he did when he fought for equal rights for all people. Martin Luther King used his words to fight for this and never resorted to violence, which we thought was brilliant!
We are very busy in SESE learning about all the countries in Europe and we will soon be starting our projects about Italy. At the moment, we are learning about a famous explorer from Italy... His name is Marco Polo and he came from Venice. Did you know he travelled through the Gobi Desert to Mongolia and China where he discovered coal and paper money? He wrote a book called the "Travels of Marco Polo" in which he wrote all about his adventures! We did an Art lesson where we worked in groups to create a mural of Marco Polo's timeline! We hope you like the photos of this!

Slán go fóill,
Caitríona agus Rang a Ceathair
