New Year
This month in Castaheany Educate Together, we have been learning about different New Year celebrations. All classes learned about New Year's resolutions, and children won Shining Stars at assembly for starting the year with a good attitude. Well done to all those children!
Chinese New Year is celebrated on the 23rd of January, and all classes will be learning about it. We already have a beautiful Chinese dragon in our school above the entrance door and Laura's class are already greeting visitors with 'Ni hao' ("Hello" in Chinese) when they come into their classroom. Marian's Junior Infants have also made Chinese dragons. Next week we will be hearing lots of 'Gong Xi Fa Cai' ("Happy New Year" in Chinese) around the school.
Some classes have also been learning about Martin Luther King and all the wonderful work he did. Children have been listening to stories about him and writing about him. Aideen's class have been listening and singing along to the song 'Happy Birthday' by Stevie Wonder, which is a tribute to Martin Luther King. First class (Erica and Siobhan's classes) drew some lovely portraits of Martin Luther King too.
