Classes & Activities for Parents 2010

Term 1 Activties and Classes

Baking:
On October 1 five fantastic parents from the 1 classes came into the school and did some baking with the 1 classes. The children had great fun making chocolate chip cookies which tasted delicious. We are hoping to do some baking with all the classes this year. There is a copy of the timetable for baking with all the classes in Septembers newsletter.


Maths for Fun:
The maths for fun programme that we do from 1-6 class is up and running. We have started with first class and next month we will be doing the programme with 2 class. It usually takes place on Wednesday and Thursday morning from 9:15-10:00am so if you are free on either of these days and would like to get involved please let Ciara know.

This year we are very lucky to have lots of classes and courses for parents.

English Classes:

Jewellery Making
Day: Thursday Time: 10:00am-12:00pm


Yoga
Day: Friday Time: 11:30am-1:00pm places are full


Computer Classes:
Day: Wednesday Time: 09:00am-10:30pm places are full


Healthy Food Made Easy:
Day: Wednesday Time: 10:30am-1:00pm places are full


Parents Plus Programme:
Day: Tuesday Time: 10:30am-1:00pm

Gardening Committee:

We are hoping to set up a gardening committee. We are looking for any volunteers who can come in and help us establish and maintain our garden. A one day training course may be provided for any parent/guardian/grandparent who is interested in helping us set up the garden.

Green Flag Committee:
This year we are working towards getting a second green flag for our school. This year the green flag will be rewarded for energy. We have meetings once a week on Thursday from 12:00-12:30. We are looking for a parent/guardian/grandparent volunteer who would like to become involved with the green flag committee and come to our meetings.



Literacy for Fun :

This year we are going to pilot ‘literacy for fun’ in the senior infant classes. In November we are going to pilot this in Muireann’s class. It will be a five week programme that will take place every Friday at 9:30am for 30 mins. More information will be given to parents closer to the time.

Maths Course for Parents:

We have recently got funding for a maths course for parents. This family learning course aims to provide support to parents/guardians of children in primary school from 1-6 class to improve their own maths skills to enable them to help children with their maths homework. It will take place every Monday for 7 weeks from 9:15-11:15. It will start on November 1.
