Whats Going On?
We have so many things going on in our school. Here is just a small look at some of the events and projects we are involved in and have completed.
October 2011
The Sam Maguire Cup Visits Castaheany!
What a day to remember!
The Sam Maguire Cup, often called The Sam or in Irish- Corn Somhairle Mag Uidhir, is the name of the cup that is awarded to winners of the All-Ireland Senior Gaelic Football Championship.

Castaheany Dress Up Day
28th October 2011
Everyone made a really special effort dressing up. Barbie hosted this mornings assembly and she was joined by a Teenage Mutant Turtle, a camel, Mrs. Pumpkin, Michael Jackson, Little Red Riding Hood, The Witches, The Pirates of Castaheany, cowboys and cowgirls, Twister, Madame Ladybird, The Geisha Girl and an Inuit all the way from the Antarctic!
We had a fantastic day and made a great effort to support Educate Together's Fundraising Day!
Most importantly we had lots of fun!

Second Green Flag!
March 2011
We are so delighted to announce that after much hard work and dedication our school has received its second Green Flag!
The whole school community works really hard to ensure that our school is "green" and we look forward to continuing our green commitment.
A big thank you to all the green flag commmitee which includes children, staff and parents. A special thanks to our Green Flag co-ordinator Ciara.

Festival of Light
March 2011
All the school came together to celebrate light and its importance to many people in many different ways. The children discussed, explored and celebrated many different religious beliefs along with many other areas where light plays an important role.
Everyone worked so hard and it resulted in a wonderful event enjoyed by all. We were so proud to see such a huge audience. Well done to all the children, staff and families who were involved!

Staff Dress up Day
October 2010
All the staff took part in this fundraiser for Educate Together. The children and staff had great fun guessing what people were dressed as and watching as Marge Simpson, Michael Jackson, an egyptian mummy and many other interesting characters came to our school assembly! Thank you to all who supported this day.

Cinema for Pakistan
October 2010
The school decided to help raise money for the victims of the Pakistan floods. We held a cinema day! The children all contributed money and Xtra Vision Ongar donated films for us to show on our interactive white boards. All involved had an enjoyable time and lots of money was raised for this worthy cause.

Grandparents Day
September 2010
To celebrate Positive Aging Week we held a coffee morning for grandparents in the school. We were delighted that ten fantastic grandparents came along. Laura’s class came along and sang a few songs. They also read a beautiful poem about grandparents and presented this poem to the grandparents. We showed the grandparents around the school and they saw their grandchildren in their classrooms. It was a very special morning and we want to say a big thanks to the grandparents and parents that came along. Also we would like to say a big thank you to Laura and her class for making the morning extra special.

Yellow Flag
We were presented with our Yellow Flag last Wednesday 21st October 2009 by Minister Mary Hanafin, on behalf of the Irish Traveller Movement, in Trinity College. It was awarded to the school in recognition of our hard work and commitment to diversity and inclusion. A big "Thank You" to the parents, staff and students who took part in the Diversity Committee, to all of the classes, staff and parents who worked so hard on the Yellow Flag projects last year and especially to Diana who co-ordinated the work at every level. We are very proud of our achievement. Mary, Oct. 09'
What is the Yellow Flag?
The main aim of this pilot programme is to develop a practical series of steps that brings issues of interculturalism, equality and diversity into the whole-school programme and apply them to the day to day running of the school. It aims to work with students, staff, management, parents and wider community groups so that issues of diversity and equality are not merely seen as "school subjects" but can be understood and taken outside the school setting into everyday life.Similarly to the Green Schools, the Diversity in Schools pilot would be both a practical programme and an award scheme - completion of the nine practical steps would result in the school receiving the "Yellow Flag" for diversity.
